The Mighty Epsilon Chapter presents: From Colonialism to Black Empowerment: The Transatlantic Slave Trade, London’s Legacy, and the Fight for Racial Justice in the UK and Beyond.

 

Join in us for an enlightening evening as we welcome Darrel Blake, a distinguished scholar and activist, traveling from London to deliver this powerful lecture. Hosted at the Henry J. Carter Specialty Center on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, this event will delve into the historical and contemporary impacts of British colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade, offering a unique perspective on the fight for racial equity.

Darrel Blake’s presentation will trace the arc of history from the rise of the transatlantic slave trade to the modern struggles against racial inequality. He will explore the economic systems and racial hierarchies established during the slave trade and their lasting consequences as well as the transatlantic connections between the Black Power Movement in the United States and Black British Freedom Fighters. Current challenges such as economic disparities, the Windrush Scandal, and the disproportionate effects of health and social care on Black communities will also be discussed.
